FAQ
At Limelight Chiropractic and Natural Therapy, we understand that you may have questions about chiropractic care. Here are some answers to our most frequently asked questions: - How does chiropractic care work? Chiropractic care works by restoring the proper alignment of the spine, which allows the body to function at its best. By removing interference to the nervous system, chiropractic care can help the body heal itself. - Is chiropractic care safe? Yes, chiropractic care is safe when performed by a licensed chiropractor. At Limelight Chiropractic and Natural Therapy, we use gentle techniques that are safe for patients of all ages. - How often do I need to come in for treatment? The frequency of treatment will depend on your individual needs and goals. Our chiropractors will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that fits your lifestyle and schedule.
-
What happens if a patient does not want to be adjusted by a chiropractor?Dr. Hashimoto is very respectful of a patient’s concerns or anxieties about being adjusted. If a patient does not want their neck adjusted, for example, alternative forms of effective treatments will be discussed and considered.
-
Are chiropractors the same as physiotherapists? No. While there are similarities between chiropractors and physios, both are distinct professions that require many years of health science education. Both professions focus on helping patients recover from physical injuries. The patient experience may seem similar but it may also be very different, depending on the health practitioner's approach.
-
Are all chiropractic treatments the same? No. The goal of chiropractic care is to help optimize a patient’s musculoskeletal health and since each patient is unique, each chiropractic treatment aims to correct an individual’s unique problem or issue. Some patients may need a chiropractic adjustment to a specific spinal vertebrae to address a patient’s pain in their neck, low back, or hip, for example. Some patients may not need an adjustment but would benefit from soft tissue therapy or have home stretches be prescribed by Dr. Hashimoto.
-
What is a chiropractic adjustment?A chiropractic adjustment is a safe, effective treatment that involves having a chiropractor apply a specific, controlled external manual force to a restricted (subluxated) joint in a patient’s body. Like when someone cracks their knuckles, a patient may hear a cracking sound coming from their joints when their chiropractor adjusts them, which is a result from a tiny bubble of gas being temporarily released from their joint capsule. The purpose of the adjustment is to provide restoration of healthy, functional movement and, ultimately, to provide pain relief for the patient.
-
Can I do a consultation over the phone? While we encourage potential patients to book an actual appointment for a full, thorough assessment, Dr. Hashimoto occasionally takes calls to answer questions pertaining to what specific treatment modalities are used in treatment, and what a patient might do to alleviate pain until their first assessment, for example.
-
What is a “typical” chiropractic treatment with Dr. Hashimoto?Dr. Hashimoto’s approach to patient care is unrushed and personalized. A treatment session will typically involve a review of how a patient feels and how they may have responded to a previous treatment session, followed by an assessment of the patient’s range of motion. Depending on Dr. Hashimoto’s findings, treatment may include providing a chiropractic adjustment to a specific joint in the body, followed by gentle soft tissue massage and ending with therapeutic stretching and a review of what stretches a patient can do at home between treatment sessions. An average appointment time ranges from 15 to 20 minutes.
